A qualifying direct deposit is a regular periodic payment, such as salary, pension, government payments (for example, Social Security), or other monthly income that occurs as an Automated Clearing House (ACH). ACH credits or fund transfers initiated via the KeyBank website or mobile app and wires are not considered a direct deposit.

It’s simple: Open a Key Smart Checking account, then either complete the correct form on our Direct Deposit page and give it to your employer or other entity that sends you checks; or use the form that they provide. If your employer or other check provider prefer that you use their form, you can easily find your account number and routing number for the form by signing in to your Key Smart Checking account in online or mobile banking.


A $10 minimum deposit is required to open this account. If you close your account within 180 days of account opening, you will be charged a $25.00 account early closure fee. Other miscellaneous charges apply.
