Christopher L. Henson
Christopher L. Henson brings more than 36 years of experience in financial services to the KeyCorp Board of Directors, including nearly two decades in senior executive leadership roles at one of the nation’s largest regional banks.
Mr. Henson most recently served as Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Banking and Insurance at Truist Financial Corporation and previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of BB&T Corporation.
While serving as President and Chief Operating Officer for BB&T Corporation, he oversaw Community Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking, Wealth and Retail Brokerage, Mortgage, Specialized Lending, Insurance, Deposits Payments and Operations, Data and Technology, Digital Strategy, Marketing, Sales and Client Experience, Human Systems, and Legal. During his tenure, BB&T grew from a regional community bank into one of the largest financial institutions in the United States.
Following the 2019 merger of BB&T and SunTrust to form Truist Financial Corporation, Mr. Henson served as Head of Banking and Insurance, with responsibility for the majority of the company's revenue-generating businesses. In that role, he played an integral part in integrating the two organizations and helping establish Truist's purpose, mission, and values. Over the course of his career, he participated in all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, negotiation, and integration, supporting more than 50 transactions and chairing multiple large-scale integration efforts.
Known for his collaborative leadership style, Mr. Henson has focused throughout his career on developing talent, strengthening organizational culture, and driving sustainable growth. He also has extensive experience in enterprise risk management, regulatory engagement, strategic planning, investor relations, and board governance.
Mr. Henson currently serves on the board of directors of Hooker Furnishings Corporation, where he is Chairman of the Audit Committee. He is also active in a number of nonprofit and community organizations, including Trellis Supportive Care Foundation and High Point University, where he previously served as Chair of the Board of Trustees.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from High Point University, graduating cum laude, and has completed executive education programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University.
