L&M Hair Studio
[Melody Brown] L&M Hair Studio really began because there was a huge gap in the industry when it came to texture hair, especially here in Portland.
It was during the pandemic, and I really was like, okay, I need to do what I really want to do with my life.
I just took a leap of faith really and just saw this shop and thought it was a great opportunity to open up something with texture hair.
Initially it was for me, but then I realized that there was a lot of other women that were just like me. I really wanted to have something where it was bigger than myself.
I connected with KeyBank through Key4Women. My husband actually told me that they were having a pitch competition, and he’s like, I think this might be something that you could really do.
And at that time, we really wanted to launch our texture hair academy. Me winning that pitch competition helped everything with that academy.
We were able to do several cohorts and we’re offering a career path for people when it comes to hair. KeyBank was like a huge, huge, huge part of us being able to launch that.
And I’ve seen people’s lives completely change — from literally how am I gonna eat to, like, I’m thriving, I have a car, I have a place. It really truly is life changing for everybody involved.
