Verifying Your Identity in a Branch

Using your Key debit or ATM card as ID in a branch.

When you visit a teller at a KeyBank branch, the fastest and most secure way to verify your identity is by using your KeyBank debit or ATM card. Find out how to get one of these cards and why we use them for in-branch identity verification.

A KeyBank debit or ATM card is our preferred form of ID.

By using KeyBank debit and ATM cards for identity verification, we help protect your account from unauthorized access. Unlike photo IDs, debit and ATM cards are not easily copied, cloned, or faked, making them secure options for identity verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

KeyBank debit and ATM cards have similarities and differences. They can both be used to verify your identity at KeyBank branches, to make transactions at ATMs, and to request cash at checkouts, where available.

Unlike a KeyBank ATM card, a KeyBank debit card has the Mastercard® logo and can be used to make everyday purchases online, in stores, and in apps.

KeyBank ATM cards do not have the Mastercard logo and can only be used at KeyBank ATMs or at merchants that accept PIN-based purchases. You can also request an ATM card that can only be used for identification purposes in our branches and not be authorized to make withdrawals or transactions.

Request an ATM or debit card in a branch or request a debit card by calling us at 1-800-KEY2YOU® (1-800-539-2968); Dial 711 for TDD/TTY.

A debit card will be ordered with your name on it and sent by mail. ATM cards do not have names printed on them and you can get an ATM card immediately in a KeyBank branch.

No problem. You can still use your driver’s license, passport, or other acceptable form of ID. In these cases, our team may use a secondary method to verify your ID or send a one-time passcode to the mobile phone number listed in your account profile. Remember, you can update your profile information anytime in online and mobile banking.
