We’ll automatically transition your Laurel Road checking account to a Key Smart Checking® account at the end of the business day on 3/13/26.

  • Your checking account number(s) and routing number will remain the same.
  • You may continue using your existing checks.
  • You may continue using your existing debit card until you activate your new one, which will be mailed to you the week of the transition.

Your account will no longer earn or be paid interest after 2/27/26.

No. Both your account number and your routing number will remain the same.

Absolutely! Since your account and routing numbers will not change, you may continue to use any checks you have remaining. The next time you order checks through KeyBank after 3/15/26, we’ll automatically update them with the KeyBank name.

Yes! You may continue to use your existing Laurel Road debit card until 5/16/26, or until you activate your new KeyBank debit card, whichever is sooner.

  • We’ll mail your new KeyBank debit card the week of 3/16/26.
  • You must activate your new card no later than 5/16/26.
  • Your Laurel Road debit card will be deactivated either when your new KeyBank debit card is activated or on 5/16/26.
  • Destroy or securely dispose of your Laurel Road debit card as soon as your new KeyBank card is activated.

Of course! You’ll continue to enjoy free, easy access to more than 40,000 KeyBank and Allpoint ATMs1 nationwide, where you can get cash, check balances, make deposits, and more. And remember, you can continue to use your current Laurel Road debit card with your same Personal Identification Number (PIN) until you activate your new KeyBank card or until 5/16/26, whichever is sooner. Find the KeyBank or Allpoint ATM closest to you in our KeyBank mobile app or at key.com/locations.

Yes, we’ll take care of that for you. We’ll automatically transfer any established direct deposits you have to your new KeyBank account, so they continue without disruption. They may also be eligible for our Early Pay service, which can give you access to your funds up to two days early.

No. KeyBank is FDIC insured, backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.

If your checking account earns a Monthly Loyalty Reward, February will be the last month this reward is offered.

Yes! Any recurring Bill Pay payments you have set up on your Laurel Road checking account will continue on your new Key Smart Checking account. You can continue to make one-time payments or set up new recurring payments for monthly bills in Key’s Online Bill Pay

Yes, your Standard Overdraft Services and Overdraft Protection Plan elections will remain in place. The Terms and Conditions of Your Overdraft Protection Agreement will remain the same when your account is converted to a Key Smart Checking account.

  • If you've set up one-time or recurring transfers with your Laurel Road account to or from a KeyBank account that you own, please note that these transfers will be discontinued after 3/13/26. After the transition, you'll need to set them up again as internal transfers.
  • After 3/16/26, you'll still be able to make a KeyBank mortgage, loan, or credit card payment online by transferring funds from your new Key Smart Checking account.
  • All Bill Pay payments and recurring automatic payments you have set up with your Laurel Road routing number and checking account number will transition to your new KeyBank checking account automatically.
  • All recurring payments you have set up using your Laurel Road debit card will continue and will automatically be transferred to your new KeyBank debit card.
  • Please note that transfer limits and cut-off times vary. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for Electronic Funds Transfer Transactions, which will be sent to you prior to the transition. 

  • Your final statement from Laurel Road will include all transactions from your last statement date through 2/27/26, and, if required, the amount of Laurel Road interest that will be reported on IRS Form 1099.
  • Your first KeyBank statement will include transaction activity from 2/28/26, through the end of your next statement.
  • If you currently receive eStatements, you’ll continue to receive emails to access them via KeyBank’s online banking. In addition, the last seven years of your statements will be archived and available in online banking in the Doc Hub and in mobile banking under Statements and Documents.
  • You'll be able to view your transaction history for the past 18 months in KeyBank's online banking and mobile banking app after the transition, starting 3/16/26.
  • Your new KeyBank statement will be available in online banking beginning 4/1/26.
  • If you’ve opted to also receive paper statements, your KeyBank statement will be mailed to you.

No. We’ll automatically transfer these settings over for you.

You'll need to re-enroll any alerts in online banking after the transition in order to stay informed about your account balances and transactions.

Yes! If you use Zelle, your transaction history and contacts will be preserved and continue to work with your new Key Smart Checking account. You can continue to send and receive money using Zelle, and all your previous transactions and contacts will remain intact.

If you’re currently receiving a student loan interest rate discount based on monthly activity in a Laurel Road Linked Checking account, you’ll continue to receive this discount as long as you continue to meet the requirements stated in the Final Disclosure for your Laurel Road Student Loan. If you choose to close your new Key Smart Checking account, you’ll no longer be eligible to receive this discount.

We’ve taken great care to place you into a KeyBank checking account with features similar to your current Laurel Road checking account. After the transition, we encourage you to try out your new Key Smart Checking account and experience all the features it has to offer. If you think a different type of checking account may be a better fit for your needs, simply contact us after the transition and we’ll be happy to discuss our other checking account options.

No surcharge at KeyBank ATMs. No surcharge at Allpoint ATMs when using your KeyBank debit card on an eligible account type. With the exception of the KeyBank Hassle-Free Account®, all clients in KeyBank’s personal checking products are eligible for Allpoint when they use their KeyBank Debit Mastercard®. Savings, Business and Hassle-Free accounts are not eligible for Allpoint.
