Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Seattle Children’s and UW Medicine have completed the restructure of their longstanding oncology collaboration, which includes the formation of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, an independent 501(c)3 organization. The transaction closed April 1, 2022.
Cain Brothers served as the exclusive financial advisor to FHCRC. FHCRC and SCCA have merged to form FHCC, a fully integrated research and cancer care delivery center. FHCC and UW Medicine have formed a clinically integrated program with a shared financial alignment in the clinically integrated adult oncology programs.
Founded in 1975, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is a world-renowned cancer research institution, home to the nation’s first National Cancer Institute-funded cancer prevention research program. The merged organization, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, is a fully integrated research and cancer care center that will be clinically integrated with and will manage the UW Medicine cancer program. The newly formed Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is one of the nation’s leading centers of research, diagnosis, patient care and prevention of cancer and other diseases. Integrating research and care will accelerate the translation of bench research to innovations in early diagnosis, new treatments and patient care.
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a unique coordinated oncology clinical and research effort between Fred Hutch, Seattle Children’s and UW Medicine. SCCA is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in the state of Washington and includes an advanced Proton Therapy Center in Seattle as well as nine clinical care sites and hematology/medical oncology infusion sites in the Greater Seattle, Bellevue, and Kirkland area.
UW Medicine is the second in the nation in National Institutes of Health research grants and is one of the top-rated clinical, research, and learning academic medical centers in the United States. UW Medicine has nearly 29,000 healthcare providers, researchers, and faculty across UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, and Airlift Northwest in the Seattle Region.
