KeyNavigator sign-in enhancements

We’ve added a new layer of security to your KeyNavigator sign-in process that strengthens our ability to verify your identity.

What you can expect

User ID and Password:

Your User ID and password won’t change, but if you've saved your password on a computer or other device, you may be asked to resave it.

Security questions:

You'll be asked to choose five new security questions and answers.

Identity verification:

We’ve incorporated two new authentication technologies, and you’ll be able to choose either (or both) based on how you access KeyNavigator.

  • Computer – FIDO Security Key
    • This read-only security key is inserted into your computer’s USB port.
    • It’s simple to use, doesn’t require a battery, and is water- and crush-resistant.
    • The key will be shipped to you and should arrive within one week of the date you select and register it.
  • Mobile or other devices – Biometric Authentication
    • This method uses fingerprint or facial ID to verify identity.
    • You’ll be able to register and start using it right away.
    • Please note your device (such as computer, mobile phone or tablet) must be enabled with fingerprint and/or facial recognition technology for this option.

You will have 45 days to decide which authentication technology you will use. You’ll continue to be able to sign in without them in the meantime.

How to prepare

  1. IMPORTANT: Ensure your security telephone numbers are current. Take action now to verify these numbers by clicking on the Security Options link in KeyNavigator. If you see that your security phone numbers are not current, please call us before you sign in again at 1-800-539-9039, Option 1.
  2. Make note of your user ID and password. These will not change, but you may be asked to re-key them.
  3. Watch the following videos to help you decide which new authentication technology works best for your business and learn how to register them.

Biometric Authentication allows you to choose between touch or face authentication.

This means that only you can access your login info and financial data, reducing the risk of:

  • Identify theft to gain account access

To get started, register your mobile device with KeyBank and access Biometric Authentication.

Scan the QR code that appears and make sure face or touch authentication is enabled.

Complete the quick one-time registration process and you're good to go.

The FIDO Security Key Registration Process

Let's help you order and register a FIDO security key so you can access your financial information securely.

After logging on to KeyNavigator, you’ll see: Good News, Improved Security is Here

Click the I Want a YubiKey button on the bottom left.

This will take you to the Security Options Page.

On the left side, under Helpful Resources, click on Order a FIDO Security Key.

Please make sure the prefilled fields are correct and enter your address.

If you need more information in selecting the correct key, click on the question mark next to YubiKey Device Information to determine what type of key you need.

Click the small circle next to the key type you need.

At the bottom left, click Submit.

You YubiKey will take about a week to arrive in the mail.

Once you have received your key, you can register it on KeyNavigator.

We'll now show you how to register your key in 7 easy steps...

Do NOT insert the key into your USB port until instructed.

Look for the prompt instructing you to register your key.

Click Setup FIDO YubiKey from the pop-up screen.

This will take you to the Security Options Page.

On the right side under Configure Authenticators, click the plus sign to register your FIDO Security Key.

The Secure Sign On will appear.  Click on the One Time Passcode.

You'll receive an authorization code on your device associated with the indicated primary phone number.  Enter the code and click Continue.

A Security key setup box will appear.  Click OK.

Continue Setup will appear.  Click OK.

You'll see a message instructing you to Insert your security key into the USB port.  When you do, make sure the "y" is on top.

Tap the security key with your finger for authentication.  Once you are  authenticated, the "y" will light up and remain lit until you are logged in to KeyNavigator.

If the key does not light up:  Make sure the key is pushed all the way in the port and that the "y" is facing up.

Helpful Hint

You'll receive prompts on your PC/Device for touching the key for authentication.

Biometric Authentication Registration Process

Let's get you registered for Biometric Authentication:  a simple way to confirm your identity using touch or face recognition so you can access your financial information securely.

Biometric Authentication doesn't require an app to download; instead it uses your device's biometrics.

You'll need a mobile device or tablet that reads your fingerprint or face.

After logging on to KeyNavigator, you'll see the message:  Good News, Improved Security is Here

Click the I'll Use Biometrics button on the bottom left.

On the right side of the next screen, you'll see Configure Authenticators with a list of options beneath it.

At the very bottom, in the Biometric Authentication (BindID) bar, move your cursor to the far right, and click the plus sign.

The Secure Sign On page will appear.  Click on One Time Passcode.

Choose your preferred method for a One Time Passcode - phone or text.

After receiving your code, enter it and click Continue. 

A QR code will appear on your computer.  Using the camera on your mobile device, scan the QR code.

Open the security URL that appears on your mobile device.

Follow the prompt to enter your email.

You'll receive a code in your email labeled BindID Email verification code.

Enter the code to verify the first part of your registration.

Note:  If you do not see the code sent to your email, check your spam/junk folder.

Next, you will be asked if KeyNavigator can view your mobile phone number and email address.  Click Approve.

Now you can use your biometrics to continue.

We’ve also added the latest security enhancements to the KeyNavigator Mobile app and KeyNavigator Mobile Web to keep you protected on the go.

KeyNavigator Mobile App

To download our updated app, simply visit the Apple® App Store or the Android™ Google Play™ store and choose the latest version of KeyNavigator Mobile.

  • We’ll send a validation code to your phone the first time you sign in, so please ensure your security phone number is accurate in advance.
  • After you download the app, select “Configure Authenticators” in the app settings to enable biometrics for either facial or touch recognition – whichever your mobile device supports.
  • Once biometrics are enabled, you’ll be able to sign in without entering your validation code each time you make a deposit.
  • If you’d like more information on accessing our KeyNavigator mobile options, please visit our Mobile Deposit User Guide or our Mobile Banking User Guide.

KeyNavigator Mobile Web

To access our enhanced mobile website:

  • First sign in to KeyNavigator on your computer at least once.
  • Then, you can sign in to KeyNavigator Mobile Web. Navigate to the KeyNavigator Mobile Web on your mobile device and sign in with your credentials.
  • We’ll send you a validation code each time you sign in, so please ensure your security phone number is accurate in advance.
