Watch video “Streamlining solutions to benefit patients”
Dick Clark: I'm a lifelong Portlander, and the Portland Clinic is 100 years old, and it has a great reputation in Portland.
And so I felt like I was gonna be leading one of the best businesses in the Portland area.
Our mission is a trusted community collaborating to improve the health and wellbeing of those we serve.
Healthcare is all about trust, and so what we're trying to do is tell people where we're at and where we're going.
Let's meet our clients where they're at and recognize that their needs change of how they wanna engage with banking, and I think that that is the same with healthcare.
And the Portland Clinic has really been on a journey over several years of thinking about, you know, where do their patients want to go?
How do they wanna receive their healthcare services?
And helping to support that infrastructure, helping to think through, and bring advisors to them that say, here are the trends that we're seeing across the country in businesses like yours.
KeyBank's always thinking about solutions, always looking for opportunities to serve us and all of their other healthcare partners well.
I think that they understand the industry, and that's very helpful.
It's really embracing technology so that it makes it easier from the standpoint of your patient.
Issuing debit cards to those patients so that we don't necessarily have to utilize checks.
Take away all the paper, take away all the manual piece so that a patient can just transact, and be done, and they don't have to worry about it.
We take all of, kind of that fear and worry of what is my patient bill going to be?
How am I going to pay it?
How am I going to manage it?
We have consolidated all of our activities.
Having everything under one roof is really critical because once again, rather than segregating duties, they're able to understand what our needs are and come up with solutions that are very streamlined for us as opposed to us trying to knit something together.
We're really charged with helping them serve the community.
We looked at how they're doing their equipment finance, and also how they were doing the real estate, and the real estate was extremely complicated.
They were getting different terms for medical equipment, and then IT equipment.
They'd have to work with two separate groups.
That really was a great opportunity for us, because the thing be try to do is just keep it real simple.
Just the other day, we had a major HVAC unit installed in top our surgery center.
Even though it's a little bit invisible, a HVAC unit on top of a surgery center is almost as important as a good oxygen tank or a surgery table.
Once they do get everything over, they find out how much easier it is, 'cause it gives us a lot of flexibility in what we can do, especially when the real estate's involved, and their line of credit.
What we created about three years ago was a freestanding clinic on a neighborhood boulevard.
And we're very proud of this because, in essence, we have apartments and single family dwellings right next to this clinic, so we're embedded in the neighborhood.
The combination of this grocery store/nutrition center and our own attitude of how our doctors practice medicine have made this, really, into a wellness center.
They can be the innovators and the drivers behind finding unique ways to reach people differently.
I would say that KeyBank has facilitated our business to be more sustainable and more growth oriented.
We have been able to look at our goals and our strategies.
They've made some of these things into reality, more efficiently and more cost effectively.
Community health providers play a crucial role in our society, providing quality healthcare that is inclusive and accessible to the communities they serve. To best meet their mission, they need a seamless business infrastructure that allows them to focus on the needs of their patients. That support system becomes even more crucial during stressed periods such as the pandemic and economic downturn of 2020.
