3 Tips to Create Your Dream Nursery on a Budget
Talk to almost any mother about their pregnancy memories, and they'll fondly tell you about setting up their dream nursery.
That's because not only is setting up your nursery a great way to make you feel more secure and comfortable about this upcoming transition in your family life (aka nesting), but it's also a way to happily pass the time while you await your bundle of joy.
Below are three tips on how to create your dream nursery while staying within your budget.
Tip #1: Make Strategic Use of Your Baby Registry
Are your friends, family, and/or coworkers chipping in to throw you a baby shower?
Filling out a baby registry will not only help them decide what to get you, but it will also help you get the items you want for your nursery (that's right, you don't only have to register for things like pacifiers and baby swings). While filling out your baby registry, don't be afraid to include a few items that you'd like as well.
Tip #2: Shop for Your Baby's Future at a Discount
After years of mothering, you'll realize a pattern at baby stores or in the baby areas of the stores you already shop at. Many times, stores will put items on clearance.
Use this to your advantage while you're pregnant by consistently shopping/perusing in these areas and snagging not only a few items for your dream nursery but also other baby items for 18-month-olds, 2-year-olds, etc.
Tip #3: Source Quality Used Items
Since babies grow out of nursery items and baby gear so quickly, there's a huge inventory of gently used baby items waiting for you online.
Be sure to locate and join your local Facebook Sell Groups to trade and buy last year's latest and greatest nursery additions at a fraction of the cost, right in your own neighborhood! If you type in "your area" + "sell baby items" in the search bar, you'll find some great items.
Bonus tip: Do a quick search on nursery items to see if they've been recalled before buying anything. And if an item has been recalled? Do some more research; a simple call to the manufacturer can go a long way.
Many of the gifts you'll receive at a baby shower will cover those early months of your infant's life. But guess what? Your baby will quickly turn into a toddler, and before you know it, you'll wonder where your two-month-old went. So, remember to include registry and purchase items for your nursery that can transition with your growing baby, such as a convertible crib-to-bed. You'll thank yourself later!
