5 Ways to Celebrate Your Anniversary on a Budget
Whether it's your first anniversary or your 30th, it's important to find ways to mark such an important milestone with your partner. However, it can be all too easy to go over-the-top with a lavish, expensive celebration. If you're looking to celebrate your relationship with a loved one, but would like to stay within budget, here are five ways to enjoy your wonderful achievement without sparing the romance and magic.
1. Work With Your Existing Budget
Before you go all out and plan that all-frills party or a dream trip to an exotic, faraway locale, look at your current financial picture to figure out how much you can reasonably afford to spend. While it may be tempting to reach for your credit card, it may be wiser to set up a savings account for the special occasion.
If you're planning well ahead of time, consider slashing your spending in other areas. For instance, commit to saving a designated amount each week so you can hit your goal. See if there's a side hustle you can take on to squirrel away a little extra cash if you're getting close to your anniversary date.
2. Plan a Small Celebration
Invite your nearest and dearest family and friends for a small gathering. The motto "your presence is the best present of all" applies. Perhaps you can agree to provide the main entree and instead of asking for gifts the attendees could bring a side dish or dessert.
3. Enjoy a Staycation
Get creative and cobble together an adventure for two in your area. You can visit local sights and pick a few eats that have been on your to-do list. Another inexpensive way to celebrate your anniversary is to pick some of your favorite eateries and parks where you've shared some of your most memorable moments and relive your fond memories.
Other ways to save during your staycation? Skip the pricey dinner and dine at your favorite eatery during lunch instead. Most restaurants offer a similar menu for lunch but at a fraction of the cost. Or prepare some of your favorite homemade to-go dishes and enjoy a picnic in the park.
4. Find Small Ways to Display Your Love
Tap into your partner's love language to celebrate your love for one another. Whether it's acts of service, quality time spent together, or thoughtful DIY gifts, express your affection in a way that speaks loudest to your partner. A handwritten love note, home-baked cookies, or carefully curated photo compilation of moments you've shared make for fantastic, inexpensive gifts.
5. Consider Celebrating at a Later Date
If your anniversary coincides with a major holiday, consider doing something simple to celebrate your anniversary — and then do something more lavish later in the year. That way you aren't up against a bunch of major expenses within the same month.
I did this in the past when my anniversary date was around the same time as a friend's birthday and Halloween. As you might imagine, all of those celebrations — along with my own anniversary — put a toll on my pocketbook. To even out the festivities and our spending, it was agreed to celebrate the anniversary in the spring.
Figuring out how to celebrate your anniversary doesn't have to be a challenge nor should it set you back financially. With a bit of planning, creativity, and flexibility, you and your partner can cherish your relationship without burning a hole in your wallet.
